Six Little Surprises

We had only been back in Chipata for about 4 days when we woke up to some surprises in the corner of our yard. Can you guess what we found?

Joey wanted to be part of the action, even though he had no clue why we were all excited.

“Wait for me!!!!!!”

“Oooh, this is fun! Why does Daddy have blankets in the wheelbarrow?”

Our dog Jade had been complaining all the previous day about being chained up. We thought it was because she’d gotten used to roaming whenever and wherever during our absence the previous month. Turns out, she was begging to be allowed to go “nest”! As a fellow pregnant Mommy, I felt pretty bad once we realized that! (And just to clarify- we did notice Jade looked pregnant, but she has more “false pregnancies” than not. Thus our surprise!)

As you can see in the first picture, being right next to the gate wasn’t the safest place for her and her new puppies, especially once they start walking and can fit under the gate. Damon lured Jade away from the puppies (not an easy task!) so he could move them to a makeshift shelter that was warmer (we’re entering the “cold season”) and safer.

All safe and snuggly in their shelter. Joey was fascinated by “other babies” and kept pointing to them and grunting. šŸ™‚

It looks like we’re going to have lots of babies around here!

The puppies are now about 3 weeks old and their eyes have opened. They are adorable and guaranteed to be “child friendly”! Anyone want a puppy? šŸ™‚
