While we were in Lusaka, the baby who first made me a mother turned 5 years old! I feel like somehow, she’s now just a “young girl” now and not my “little girl”. I now understand all the comments I used to overhear from parents about wanting to stop time. I am soaking up every day of “now” and just want to capture it forever.
We started off her day having her favorite breakfast of chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes with our friends the Clarks.
Waiting for their pancake.
Since we were in the capitol, Damon did some asking around and discovered some treasures that were new to us. He discovered a lodge just outside of town that had so much more to offer than we had time to enjoy! We brought the Clark children with us to Lilayi, and one of the first things we saw was monkeys. How cute was that!
While we didn’t get to go on the game drive or enjoy the pool or restaurant, we did get to see what we’d driven out there to see- baby elephants! A section of the lodge was dedicated for caring for orphaned elephants. We got to see them be fed! And let me say, it was amazing how fast they downed their 2 liter bottle!
Since we were on the other side of town from our afternoon appointment, we decided to just grab lunch on our way to the embassy to renew Felicia’s passport. And then we saw it- KFC! Brand new to Lusaka, we decided we had to try it! We ate it in the car, and the smell alone was worth it! The funny thing is, when we’re in the states, we never eat there! Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that… 🙂
This is what our car looked like this day as our children plus three friends enjoyed trekking across the city.
The girls-
And with the boys-
In the evening, it was time for cake. I wanted to make this cake I found on Pinterest, but ran out of KitKats. So this is what we ended up with. 🙂
It still has it’s own “charming” design, right? 🙂 Felicia didn’t mind that it wasn’t exactly like the picture; all she saw was “CANDY”!!!
And I think that’s what the all the other children saw, too. Just look at how excited Joey is to be that close to the cake. 🙂
It was a very fun and memorable day! We packed it full! I’m just thankful Natalie is young enough to not expect a special trip to the capitol for her birthday in a few weeks! 🙂
I love that cake!! So cute…what child would NOT like it? 😉 Glad she had a happy birthday! Isn’t is awful how quickly they grow up??? Terrible. 😦

Felicia is so pretty. Sounds like ya’ll had a great time for her birthday. My little man is turning 5 in just two months. Where did the time go?
